Are the plates Single-use/disposable ?
We know it’s hard to believe that our areca leaf plates are intended for single-use, but our line is actually fully biodegradable and compostable. Because we do not use any bonding agents, lacquers or chemicals and our product is natural and porous, we cannot legally recommend washing and reusing of our plates. We can, however, tell you that our customers often write in that they hand wash the plates and enjoy them time and again.
Can I dispose the used plates without causing any harm to the environment ?
You can compost them either in home compost or in municipal composting facilities. If you don’t have home compost but have a garden/ back yard, you could just break the plates up and bury them. If none of these options are available to you, just dispose them with your regular garbage and the food ware – will naturally biodegrade in 6-8 weeks. This process uses 90% less energy than recycling. Disposable plates can be good source of organic manure. They can be used as good fertilizer and enhances plant growth. They can also be used as a good animal fodder.
Do I need to wash the plates before use ?
No. They have been sterilized and cleaned thoroughly, so please feel free to use them straight out of the packet.
Can I use regular Silverware with the Palm leaf plates ?
Definitely. Our plates are lightweight yet strong enough to be used with a knife and fork without risk of punctures or leaks.
Will this affect the taste of the food?
No. These areca leaf plates won’t alter the taste of your food in any way. They also have no lacquers/glue on them, so there’s nothing to leach into your food-something that can happen with plastics or PLA plastics.
Why does each plate/bowl look different ?
Each areca leaf plates plate is unique because of the natural texture, color and pattern of the leaf it’s made from. Our plates are made from naturally fallen Areca trees. We do not use any dyes or bleach on the leaves. Each leaf is unique which gives unique look on the plates. We do not alter the leaves in anyway.
